There is only one thing that I dread: not to be worthy of my sufferings.”

At some point in the last three years music was no longer a hobby for me but, rather, hard work. As a solution to the problem, film temporarily became my new hobby. As a result, the following films had an enormous influence on this album, inspiring several lyrics, ideas, and creative pursuits:

 by Federico Fellini;
45 Years by Andrew Haigh;
Blue is the Warmest Color by Abdellatif Kechiche;
Brief Encounter by David Lean;
Certified Copy by Abbas Kiarostami;
Chungking Express by Wong Kar-wai;
Dekalog by Krzysztof Kieslowski;
The Emigrants/The New Land by Jan Troell;
Faces by John Cassavettes;
Five Easy Pieces by Bob Rafelson;
The Great Beauty by Paolo Sorrentino;
Ikiru by Akira Kurosawa;
In the Mood for Love by Wong Kar-wai;
Inside Llewyn Davis by the Coen Brothers;
La Dolce Vita by Federico Fellini;
Love in the Afternoon by Eric Rohmer;
The Master by Paul Thomas Anderson;
Persona by Ingmar Bergman;
Summer Interlude by Ingmar Bergman;
The Salesman by Asghar Farhadi;
Scenes from a Marriage by Ingmar Bergman;
The Soft Skin by Francois Truffaut;
Three Colors (trilogy) by Krzysztof Kieslowski;
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg by Jacques Demy;
Winter Light by Ingmar Bergman

Fine print

(this album features several audio samples downloaded from random websites and YouTube links over the years for when I didn't have the finances or accommodations to record the sounds I wanted myself.  'quiet' features a sample of nature; 'running away' a sample of a Parisian café and several clips of step-dancing performances that were meshed together and compressed; 'i don't know what i'm doing' a sample of a cable buzzing; 'normal human being' a sample of the sound a television makes when changing channels; 'when someone offers you' a sample of a Native American chant, a double flute from demo videos made by High Spirits Flutes {I hope to buy one of your flutes someday!}, and the sound of a crowd cheering; 'yearning' a sample of Ravi Shankar playing sitar from the Pather Panchali soundtrack, I believe and a very brief passing section of pizzicato violins; 'love is' a sample of one of Celia Johnson's incredible monologues in the beautiful film Brief Encounter {go watch it}; and 'either way' a sample of a harpist performing a glissando and a double flute from High Spirits Flues again. I do not own or attempt to convey that I own or came up with these brief sound samples - my only creative action was knowing I wanted a particular sound and then placement.)
